A “gender-equal society” is a “society in which both men and women, as equal members, have the opportunity to participate in all kinds of social activities at will, equally enjoy political, economic, and cultural benefits, and share responsibilities.” (Ref. Gender Equality Bureau Cabinet Office, Japan website)

In 2012, to achieve gender equality in the field of agricultural chemistry, our society joined “The Japan Inter-Society Liaison Association Committee for Promoting Equal Participation of Men and Women in Science and Engineering (EPMEWSE)” (established in October 2002), a federation of science and engineering societies and associations.

In 2013, we commenced this activity as “the Gender Equality Preparatory Committee” established within the Academic Activities Committee. We established “the Gender Equality Committee” officially in 2015 and changed the committee name to “the Diversity Promotion Committee” in 2019. The committee has been engaged actively in activities to both overcome the gender gaps in our research field and to give consideration to members including foreigners and people of various localities.
